Steve Smart has spent his career working in the golf industry, and his lifetime playing it since he first began at the age of 10. Steve has served as a PGA Professional since his election in 1990 and is now a Life Member. As a seasoned teacher and expert in his field, Steve has instructed over 3,000 golfers to learn and improve their game. He comes to us from Lenoir Country Club and brings with him a great deal of knowledge and experience as well as enthusiasm to grow Beechwood Country Club's golf program. Steve began playing golf recreationally at the age of 10. He joined his high school golf team where he won the Georgia State All-American honors his senior year. From there, he was awarded a golf scholarship to Chattahoochee Valley Community College where they won the National Junior College Championship in 1981. Continuing with college golf, Steve signed with Georgia Southern College and played the next two years. His lowest round as an amateur was a 63 in which he shot twice in tournament play, held three course records and had won over 61 junior and regional tournaments. After college, he moved to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina and started his bid for the tour and working at Palmetto Dunes as a professional and teaching in Bert Yancey’s Classical School of Golf. There he met his beautiful wife, Tammy Jordan, and married in 1985. They have three daughters, April, Misty and Shannon, and now have four grandchildren. During his career, Steve worked with a golf management team where he assisted with the construction, start-up and the restructuring of golf facilities. From 1997 to present, he worked in several country clubs throughout North and South Carolina,including Berkeley Country Club in Moncks Corner and Legend Oaks Golf Club in Summerville, SC. |
